Paper about Electronic Voting

Ten percent (10%) of the final grade of this course will be based on a paper about electronic voting. This grade will be computed based on the following:

50 points = 5 points each for 10 references
10 points = outline of paper
15 points = rough draft of paper
25 points = final paper

for a total of 100 points. To receive credit, assignments must be deposited in the digital dropbox by the specified date. For extra credit, see below.

References: Google “electronic voting” -- remember that if you put a phrase in quotation marks, Google will search for the entire phrase rather than separate words. Each reference submission will consist of (1) your name, (2) the reference, including URL if found on the web, and (3) at least half a page of material that you expect to reference in your paper, in a form that you find helpful. If you intend to quote directly from the reference, be sure to put quotation marks around the quote.

Material referenced must be available in printed form. Do not use newspapers because these articles rarely contain sufficient depth. You may, if you wish, use articles from news magazines (Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, etc., if the articles are in depth). You may, if you wish, use at most one article on security (internet, etc.) that does not have as it’s primary focus the security of computer voting. You may also, if you wish, use at most one article on the principle of the secret ballot in our government (which need not cite electronic voting). You should have some references from recognized experts in computer security.

References are to be submitted to the digital dropbox in Blackboard by the following dates: Jan. 19, Jan. 23, Jan 28, Feb. 2, Feb. 6, Feb. 16, Feb. 20, Feb. 25, Mar. 1, Mar. 5.

Outline of Paper: Due March 12.

Rough Draft: Due March 29.

Final Paper: Due April 5.

Extra Credit: You may receive an additional 10 points on this assignment by having a letter to the editor on this subject printed in a newspaper (The Tiger, The Anderson Independent, your hometown newspaper, etc.) Proof of acceptance by a newspaper must be given to the instructor by the final exam of the course.

Assistance: You may receive help with grammar and structure from the Writing Lab, your English teacher, or other sources. You may receive oral help from any source. In submitting this paper you certify that the paper is your own work.
