Software Engineering Process Improvement

Description:

The boss has decided that some of the problems being experienced by the company are due to an ineffective software development process. The ISO 9000 family of standards and the SEI's Capability Maturity Model (CMM) are frameworks for evaluating the capabilities of an organization and a yardstick against which to be measured. Develop a white paper that will help the boss to decide which of the two techniques to use and to show that others have been successful using that technique.

Here is a starting point: ISO-9000

Here is a staring point for CMM: CMM

Steps:

1. Start with research. Find out what others have written. Check out the chapter in the text book.

2. Develop a set of criteria for comparing the two techniques. Carry out the comparison.

3. Develop a justification for the technique you select.

4. Develop an action plan for implementing the selected technique.

5. Capture all of the above in a whitepaper like the one given at sample whitepaper.

6. Be certain to give credit for all of your sources.

This is a team assignment. Hard copy is due Wednesday, April 2, 2003 no later than 4PM. Turn in to the CS dept office.

3. Any value added beyond the basic assignment
