Welcome to CpSc 372 for the Fall 2006 semester

I am away serving as the conference chair for the Software Product Line Conference 2006 in Baltimore: http://www.sei.cmu.edu/splc2006/

I will be in class next Tuesday, in the office next Monday, and available on email (johnmc@cs.clemson.edu) everyday including today. Attached to the paper copy of this handout is the syllabus. Be certain to look over it and either email any questions or I can answer them when I return.

This semester we will discuss software engineering but more importantly we will actively practice software engineering. We will work in the Eclipse environment and in particular we will be doing plug-in development. Below are two articles from the eclipse web site that you need to read before next Tuesday.

Eclipse platform

http://www.eclipse.org/articles/Whitepaper-Platform-3.1/eclipse-platform-whitepaper.pdf

Plug-in development

http://www.eclipse.org/articles/Article-PDE-does-plugins/PDE-intro.html

Also need to read chapter 1 in the Software Engineering Process book.

You need to get, if you don’t already have it, the latest version of Eclipse. Set up your environment before next class. Use this link to get the correct version:
