In-vehicle Telematics Systems

This semester’s architecture project will explore the area of infotainment systems in vehicles. In particular it will focus on intermodal traveler assist systems. The product must fit into the in-vehicle telematics system so that it can use the mobile telecommunications of the vehicle and so that it can use vehicle properties such as speed, direction, etc. to estimate ETAs at various points in an itinerary.

The specific product will provide two main types of services to the user. It will provide itinerary planning and tracking services and it will provide information query services. The product will co-exist in the vehicle’s network along with various under the hood, front seat, and back seat services.

Read these references to gain some domain knowledge. There are a couple of conceptual or system architectures described in these papers.
