A good process is one that describes exactly what has to be done to accomplish a task but no more. A process
should, when possible, capture the experience of those who have performed the task repeatedly.
The form of the process description depends on the culture of the organization, the maturity of the personnel who will
operat ethe process, and any external requirements. Using a graphical representation such as the SPEM notation can make
the process easier to understand overall with text available to describe each step in suficient detail.
A process description should be reviewed by those with experience in performing the task before being deployed.
A process should periodically be reviewed. If the process is not being followed, the first question should be whether
what is actually being done is a better process than what the written process describes. If so, the written process
should be changed.
