Several researchers in the CS dept. are also work in the area of parallel computing, more from an algorithms perspective. The Univ of Minnesota also is home to the Army High-Performance Computing Research Center, which provides access to the CM-200 and the CM-5, and the Minnesota Supercomputer Institute, which provides access to the Crays. Researchers in these groups are studying computational fluid dynamics, visualization techniques, etc.
