During the semester TA's are granted no leave. A TA who must miss a class must notify the faculty supervisor or the director of instruction in advance so that an approved substitute may be scheduled. No substitute TA's are to be used without prior approval of a faculty member. If the TA is unable to contact faculty supervisor or the director of instruction, the TA should attempt to contact, the director of graduate affairs, the department chair, and if all else fails, any faculty member. A TA, who is not incapacitated, and fails to comply with this policy, is subject to immediate replacement or replacement at the end of the semester in which the non-compliance occurs.
A TA's workload is expected to average no more than twenty hours per week. However, a TA may occasionally be required to work somewhat more or somewhat less than twenty hours. Any TA who can document that his or her workload regularly exceeds twenty hours per week should bring the matter to the attention of the faculty supervisor. If the situation is not corrected, the TA should consult with the director of instruction or the director of graduate affairs.
